I work out my abs every time i’m at the gym (3 times a wk), with multiple excercises and I have not had a problem. Hope it helps.

Three times in a week is enough. About three ab exercises which work your abs overall is good number. Use weights to stimulate your abs and make your workouts harder. 3×15-20 repetitions for one exercise.

you should not work your abs more than twice a weeks as they assist in all other weight training exercises, you want to do between 1 and 2 exercises for each abdominal section.
lower.
upper and middle
internal and external obliques
mid-body stabilizers
try and do all exercises weighted to really carve out some abs
